Accelera partners with Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH to supply 5MW electrolyser system for green hydrogen production in Germany

Accelera, an energy technology brand powered by Cummins Inc. is partnering with Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH, a leading European hydrogen specialist, to deploy a 5-megawatt (MW) proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser system at the Port of Schweinfurt in Bavaria, Germany.

Powered by renewable solar and wind energy, the system will generate up to 2.2 tons of green hydrogen daily to support decarbonisation across mobility, industrial and research sectors in central Germany.

Des McMenamin, General Manager of Electrolysers for Accelera, said: "This collaboration with Tyczka Hydrogen underscores our commitment to advancing the hydrogen economy across Europe.

“By deploying our proven HyLYZER technology at this strategic location in Bavaria, we're helping to facilitate the development of a regional hydrogen value chain, from production to end-use, and accelerating the transition to zero-emissions transportation and industry."

Jürgen Schmidt, Head of Technology & Engineering at Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH, added: "The electrolyser is an important part of our production plant. The performance of this unit is key to our success at our hydrogen hub in Bavaria.

“We are confident that with Accelera we have found an experienced partner to achieve a high level of safety, quality, availability and efficiency. Together with our strong trailer-fleet and the extensive network of green hydrogen sources, this new hub will significantly complement our already strong value chain.”

Two Accelera HyLYZER® 500 electrolysers will deliver 5MW of capacity, producing up to 2.2 tons of green hydrogen daily for mobility, industrial and research & development (R&D) applications.

Utilising renewable electricity from solar and wind sources, the electrolyser system will produce zero-emissions hydrogen and is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 6,000 tons annually compared to fossil fuel alternatives – the equivalent to removing approximately 1,400 passenger vehicles from the road.

The electrolyser system will be installed at the Port of Schweinfurt, a central logistics hub in Bavaria with direct access to major highways, industrial infrastructure and the SüdLink DC grid connection, providing reliable access to renewable energy.

The project is backed by a €5 million grant from the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs through their Electrolyser Funding Program, the project highlights a strong government commitment to hydrogen infrastructure and clean energy innovation.

Electrolysers that leverage renewable energy sources produce green hydrogen, which is vital for accelerating the clean energy transition. Accelera is a leader in large-scale hydrogen production using PEM electrolysis and has deployed more than 600 electrolyser units worldwide, powering some of the most advanced PEM electrolyser systems operating globally. This includes a 20MW facility in Quebec, Canada, and a 35MW system in New York, U.S.
