Hazer and Energypathways hydrogen collaboration receives UK government backing

Hazer Group and its UK partner EnergyPathways have confirmed that the UK Government has recognised the MESH project as nationally significant under the Planning Act 2008.

This status provides access to streamlined planning processes reserved for large-scale energy infrastructure developments.

In July 2025, Hazer and EnergyPathways announced a Memorandum of Understanding to assess the development of a 20,000 tonne per annum clean hydrogen facility integrated into the MESH project2.

The designation of MESH as nationally significant enhances the opportunity for this integration, positioning Hazer’s technology at the core of a transformational energy hub for the UK.

The MESH project, located in northwest England, aims to create a cornerstone of the UK’s clean energy infrastructure by combining long-duration energy storage, flexible low-carbon power, low-cost hydrogen production, and critical mineral supply. Hazer has now defined a feasibility study scope to progress evaluation of hydrogen, ammonia and graphite production as part of the MESH development.

The UK Government and its energy policy framework is supportive of methane pyrolysis as a viable clean-energy pathway, recognising its potential to accelerate the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors and the reduction of scope-3 emissions. EPP is actively engaging with government and key stakeholders as its advances its strategic infrastructure project.

Hazer and EnergyPathways are currently finalising the scope of the feasibility studies along with the associated commercial terms covering study fees and deliverables.
