Intelligent Energy achieves North American certification for IE-POWER 4 stationary power product
Intelligent Energy (IE), a UK-based hydrogen fuel cell developer and manufacturer, has achieved third-party North American certification from leading Total Quality Assurance provider Intertek for its 4kW stationary power product.
The IE-POWER™ 4 fuel cell product is now a recognised component in the U.S. and Canada with ETL listing (control number 5033795).
The North American certification of the IE-POWER 4 product is a significant step to enable industry growth. The third-party validation supports integrators in meeting safety requirements to achieve their own certification, and is an essential milestone that boosts market confidence, supports the technology’s growth, and helps align regulatory standards with commercial needs.

It's anticipated that certification will play a crucial role in the widespread adoption of fuel cells across multiple sectors, accelerating the transition to cleaner, more resilient energy solutions.
Hydrogen fuel cells offer a compelling solution for enhancing grid resilience, with their ability to provide reliable, efficient, and clean backup power making them an ideal technology for ensuring the continuity of essential services and reducing the vulnerability of the grid to power disruptions.
Set to play a key role in the clean energy transition, the innovative technology offers an alternative to fossil-fuel-based power sources. Being a third-party recognised component in the U.S. and Canada will help the technology gain traction in the transition to a low-carbon economy, positioning it as a viable solution for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting renewable energy integration.
Dr. Chris Dudfield, Intelligent Energy’s Chief Technology Officer, said: “U.S. certification provides an official stamp of approval that our fuel cell technology meets stringent safety, performance, and environmental standards, encouraging wider adoption across various industries including power generation and backup power systems.”
Intelligent Energy, which has 600 patents in place, has been operating for more than two decades in the automotive, aerospace, power generation, telecoms, materials handling and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) sectors.
