SGS to certify highest hydrogen environmental and sustainability standards

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and verification company, is helping fuel producers and suppliers of hydrogen to demonstrate their compliance with the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED) and its amendments.

The CertifHy EU renewable liquid and gaseous fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO) voluntary scheme aims to advance and facilitate the production, procurement and use of low-carbon and renewable hydrogen and e-fuels.

As an approved certification body, SGS is authorised to provide CertifHy EU RFNBO audits.

Benefits of certification:

  • Demonstrate compliance with RED and its amendments

  • Meet market demands for RFNBO, including green hydrogen and its derivatives

  • Benefit from premium pricing by EU Member States aiming to reach decarbonisation targets in the transport and industrial sectors by using RFNBO

  • Gain enhanced access to EU markets by showing that your products meet stringent sustainability and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission criteria, as per applicable EU Directives and Commission Delegated Regulations

  • Secure more contracts and enhance investor confidence

SGS can also help organisations to achieve CertifHy EU RFNBO certification by providing precertification audits for plants that are not yet operational, to assess the level of readiness, identify gaps and assist in preparing for certification.

Upon successful completion of a certification audit, a certificate of compliance along with a summary audit report is issued. The certificate and audit report will be published on CertifHy’s website.
