ULEMCo celebrates HyTANKa® hydrogen refueller offtake

ULEMCo has reached a significant milestone with the first commercial sale of its HyTANKa® mobile hydrogen refueller to T&M Bowser Solutions.

Launched in June this year, the HyTANKa® is a unique autonomous mobile hydrogen refuelling bowser solution, capable of directly refuelling hydrogen-powered construction machinery on-site at up to 350bar.

HyTANKa® represents an important opportunity for operators of construction machinery and equipment to support the move to net-zero by enabling hydrogen fuel to be moved around in quantities suitable for real-world hydrogen refuelling. HyTANKa® provides a practical mechanism for bringing hydrogen into the construction sector, one of the hardest industries to decarbonise within our energy system.

Applying T&M’s extensive expertise in on-site fuelling services means customers will be able to access hydrogen fuel at even the remotest sites in a way that feels similar to how they use diesel fuel today, giving them minimum downtime or operational disruption.

Amanda Lyne, Managing Director of ULEMCo, said: “Development of the HyTANKa® demonstrates how traditional fuel service providers can help their customers adapt and switch to clean energy solutions. This collaboration demonstrates a clear commitment from both our companies to drive decarbonisation and develop the market for clean fuel.”

Lewis Dicker, Director at T&M, said: “We are excited to be leveraging our position as the UK’s most trusted provider of diesel bowser services to accelerate the transition to decarbonisation within the construction sector. HyTANKa® enables a significant reduction in CO₂ and emissions from construction equipment, supporting wider air quality improvements and net zero goals.”

HyTANKa® is ADR approved, enabling the bowser to be driven on public roads to a hydrogen refilling facility. It has been developed under the DESNZ funded Red Diesel Replacement project ‘Element 1’.

The companies believe that this first deployment will act as a catalyst for wider hydrogen adoption in heavy-duty vehicle and plant applications across the UK.
