Accelera™ to power 100MW electrolyser system for bp’s green hydrogen project in Lingen
bp's Lingen green hydrogen project in Germany will be powered by a 100-megawatt (MW) proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser system supplied by Accelera™ by Cummins.
Known as bp's largest hydrogen production plant to date, this project will utilise Accelera's advanced HyLYZER® PEM electrolyser technology.

The hydrogen-generation system set to power bp’s Lingen project will consist of 20 PEM HyLYZER®-1000 electrolyser units - the largest electrolyser system assembled by Accelera to date. The system is being manufactured in Accelera’s new electrolyser plant in Guadalajara, Spain. Once fully commissioned in 2027, the 100MW electrolyser system will produce up to 11,000 tons of green hydrogen per year.
Andreas Lippert, Vice President and General Manager of Electrolysers for Accelera, said: "This project marks a significant milestone for Accelera and the energy transition in Germany and Europe. Partnering on this 100MW system with an industry leader like bp underscores our ability to deliver innovative, industrial-scale solutions that move the needle on our customers’ decarbonisation goals and continue to grow the green hydrogen economy."
bp is currently assessing market interest among buyers for green hydrogen, which will be produced from the refinery in Lingen, northwest Germany.
bp ultimately intends to tender offtake contracts for renewable liquid and gaseous transport fuels from the project, which will be compliant with the EU’s rules on renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO), for example green hydrogen and its derivatives.
